Sam Taylor-Johnson is a critically acclaimed film director who has become one of the highest grossing box-office female directors of all time. Her directorial feature film debut, NOWHERE BOY (2009), was nominated for four BAFTA Awards, including Best British Film and Outstanding Debut for Sam’s direction. February 2015 saw the release of Sam’s directorial feature, FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, the highly-anticipated adaptation of the best-selling novel. In its opening weekend, the film drew in box office totals of $94 million in the USA alone and has gone on to make over $570 million worldwide.
Sam is also an internationally renowned artist, working mostly in the photographic medium. She has had numerous group and solo exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (1997). In 2014, Sam released a photography book for CHANEL entitled ‘Second Floor.’ This was accompanied by a solo exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Sam shot the 2017 Givenchy Men’s Fragrance campaign.
Sam recently completed filming for the Netflix series GYPSY, a psychological thriller starring Naomi Watts as a therapist who becomes immersed in the lives of her patients. The cast also includes Billy Crudup, Karl Glusman and Lucy Boynton. Sam is executive producer for the Netflix series, which is set for release in the summer of 2017.
