How do I enter #NewView? . . .

Directors can access and complete the #NewView entry form online at www.newviewfilm.com.

When is the submission deadline? . . .

The deadline to submit a film for consideration is June 30, 2017, at 11:59 P.M. ET.

Is there an entry fee? . . .

Submission to #NewView is free. There is no entry fee.

Do I have to be a Glamour subscriber to enter? . . .

You do not need to be a Glamour subscriber to enter. No purchase is required.

Who is eligible to enter #NewView? . . .

The #NewView competition is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia who are 18 to 35 years old as of the date of entry. Entrants are not required to be U.S. citizens.

What type of films is #NewView looking for? . . .

Glamour and Girlgaze have asked directors to submit a short film (3 to 5 minutes in length) that showcases their own perspective—on an issue, on their life, or on our culture. We want your point of view, so we have set no restriction on genre, style, or subject matter for eligibility. Both documentary and narrative shorts are eligible across all genres.

The judges will score entries based on the following criteria: production quality (20%) originality (25%), representation of the concept/theme (30%), and voice (20%). The five (5) entries with highest overall score will be declared the potential winners (in the event of a tie, the entry with the higher score in the representation of the concept/theme criterion will prevail).

Can I submit a film I’ve already completed? . . .

Short films completed after June 30, 2016, are eligible. Projects completed prior to that date will not be considered.

I don’t have access to professional film equipment. Can I submit something I filmed on a smartphone? . . .

Yes, absolutely! #NewView is open to all filmmakers with a story to tell, and we encourage interested directors to enter. We want your point of view.

Are student films or grad theses eligible for #NewView? . . .

Yes. Provided the project meets all other entry requirements, student films and grad theses are eligible.

May I submit an animated short? . . .

Yes. Animated shorts are eligible for #NewView. Just select the appropriate category—documentary or narrative—when completing the online entry form.

May I submit a foreign-language short? . . .

Yes. Foreign-language shorts with English subtitles are eligible for #NewView. Just select the appropriate category—documentary or narrative—when completing the online entry form.

I based a short film on a book/story/poem/song/feature that I did not create. May I enter that film into #NewView? . . .

No. All submissions must be original work and the result of your own editorial vision. Directors should submit a short film (3 to 5 minutes in length) that showcases their own perspective—on an issue, on their life, or on our culture.

I am a screenwriter of a short film, but was not the director of the project. May I submit that film to #NewView? . . .

No. Only film directors may submit a project to #NewView.

Does Glamour or Girlgaze own the rights to my project if it is selected as a winner? . . .

The copyright of any submission shall remain the property of the entrant. However, by entering a film into the competition, you give permission and consent for Glamour and Girlgaze to use your submission. (See “7. OWNERSHIP AND LICENSE” in Rules.)

Am I allowed to enter more than one short film to #NewView? . . .

Directors may enter only one short film project into the contest.

The running time of my film is longer than five minutes. Can I still enter it into #NewView? . . .

Submitted films should be no longer than five minutes, excluding closing credit roll.

I’ve already screened my film as part of a local student festival. May I enter it into #NewView? . . .

Yes. However, submissions previously screened at one of the following major film festivals are not eligible for #NewView: Aspen Shortsfest, Cannes Film Festival, Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, SXSW Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and Toronto International Film Festival.

I’ve submitted my film to major film festivals and contests but have not been accepted. May I enter it into #NewView? . . .

Yes.

Once I have submitted to #NewView, may I submit my film to other festivals or competitions? . . .

Yes, you may simultaneously submit to other festivals or competitions upon entry into #NewView. However, to qualify as a #NewView winner, your short film may not screen before June 30, 2018, at one of the following major film festivals: Aspen Shortsfest, Cannes Film Festival, Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, SXSW Film Festival, Tribeca Film Festival, and Toronto International Film Festival.

I am an employee of one of the sponsor brands. May I enter #NewView? . . .

No. Officers, directors, members, and employees of Glamour, Girlgaze, Birchbox, LuMee, THE OUTNET.COM, South Coast Plaza, and the immediate family (i.e., parents, children, siblings, spouse) and persons residing in the same household, are not eligible.

Once I submit my entry, may I make updates to or withdraw my entry? . . .

All entries are considered final and cannot be edited once submitted. If you would like to withdraw your entry, please contact us at newviewfilm@condenast.com with “WITHDRAW FROM #NEWVIEW” in the subject line.

Will there be a public or fan-voting component to the selection of winning films? . . .

No, films will not be made viewable to the public, and there will be no community voting for #NewView. All finalists and winners will be selected by the #NewView judges panel, which is composed of esteemed female filmmakers and entertainment executives as well as actresses.

How many winners will be selected? . . .

Five winners will be selected. Each winning director will receive $3,000, as well as a production budget to direct a short video for Glamour, or one of the following major brands: Birchbox, LuMee, THE OUTNET.COM, and South Coast Plaza. See (5) PRIZE DESCRIPTION in Rules.

If I am selected as one of the five #NewView winners, what happens next? . . .

If you are selected as a potential winner, a representative from Glamour x Girlgaze #NewView will be in touch to discuss next steps.
